Freja Højland Høj

Soprano

Freja Højland Høj is establishing herself as a young and promising light lyrical soprano. She obtained a master’s degree from The Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen in 2022, where she was a student of Eva Hess Thaysen and Helene Gjerris. She also studied at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, with the tenor Anthony Dean Griffey. Masterclasses by Anne Sophie von Otter, Heidi Grant Murphy, Abby Furmansky and Roger Vignoles further influenced her artistic development.

Freja sang the title role of Amahl in Menotti’s Amahl and The Night Visitors at Søholm Opera in November, 2022. This invitation came a year after she took part in Søholm Opera’s Young Artist Programme. In May 2021, she performed the role of Proserpina at Den Fynske Opera in a remake of Monteverdi’s opera L’Orfeo by Kind of Opera and the ensemble We Like We. Later the same year, she was part of a staged queer version of Händel’s Messiah, ‘A Child Is Born', singing and performing the soprano part.

Other performances include the leading role of Euridice in Luigi Rossis L’Orfeo with Eastman Collegium Musicum with Paul O’Dette, and Susanna in “Le Nozze di Figaro”. Furthermore, Freja has performed as a soloist in Bach’s Sct. Matthew Passion, Mozart’s Kroningsmesse and Faurés “Requiem”.

Recently, Freja received the Else Frederiksen Fond scholarship from the Danish Acting Society. She has also been generously supported by the Augustinus Foundation.
