Mike Sheridan x Friends

World Premiere

21:45, Wednesday, June 19

About the Concert

English:

This concert will take place on the first day of Festival & Friends. Firstly, we will hear a solo percussion piece by the Greek composer Iannis Xenakis. The piece is called 'Psappha', named after a female Greek poet from the 6th century BC. 'Psappha' is sharp, brittle, and even violent at times.

Afterwards, we will visit the creative minds of Mike Sheridan (electronic musician and producer), Lorenzo Colombo (percussion player), and Gustav Piekut (classical pianist). The performance will be one-of-a-kind and a world premiere — what a way to mark the opening of the festival.

HOW THE CONCEPT CAME TO LIFE:

The music is created based on a desire from Gustav Piekut to explore the creation of an electronic sound with a different approach than the keys on the piano.

Through a series of workshops, the two musicians have worked with Mike and developed a shared musical language. Here, they have explored both electronic instruments and the piano, the latter serving as a tone generator rather than a melodic instrument.

What to expect

A crossover between electronic and classical music. Come with open hearts and ears. This concert will be intense, atmospheric, and can best be described as an exploration of sounds. And will possibly a little bit of craziness.
